NBA 2008 ROOKIE OF THE YEAR -- THE MOST DESERVING PLAYER AND THE TOP 5 CANDIDATES
Durant clearly deserves to be named the 2007-2008 NBA Rookie of the Year after a phenomenal freshman season in the Association. Kevin Durant is a star in the making, and already can score with the best of them. The silver trophy goes to Al Horford of the Atlanta Hawks. Horford has bullied his way to a double-double in almost every contest this year, and he is the only semi-legitimate opposition to Durant being named R.O.Y..
During All Star weekend, I flipped on the t.v. and scanned the guide for the Rookie-Sophomore Game. While I was thoroughly enjoying this dunkfest, something peculiar happened. Charles Barkley commented on the rookie class. He believed that the Rookie of the Year Award needed to go to Al Horford because Kevin Durant is a one-dimensional player. I almost wet myself on the spot and jolted to the bathroom to avoid making a nasty mess! Barkley ought to be referred to as a comedian, not an analyst. Kevin Durant is scoring 20 PPG IN HIS FIRST YEAR AS A PROFESSIONAL! Some other guy pulls in some rebounds, and suddenly Charles Barkley wants to add him to his FAVE FIVE (how would D-Wade feel about this?). I need to take advantage of this opportunity and hold Barkley accountable; I’m sorry, but I have to tell it like it is. First, to use Chuck’s lingo, discounting Durant’s game is a TRAVESTY! Second, Charles Barkley is officially a “KNUCKLEHEAD” when it comes to recognizing talent (maybe he should join up with Isaiah Thomas in N.Y. as assistant G.M.)! This is as one-sided a race as I can remember in a long time. I am certain that this prediction will come to fruition: “K.D. ALL THE WAY!”
