BASKETBALL MAGAZINES -- THE CREAM OF THE CROP -- LISTED AND REVIEWED

If you are like me and are totally addicted to the game of basketball, don’t worry because there is enough high quality reading material out there to keep you satisfied. Between reading my original articles and subscribing to a couple of main stream basketball magazines, I guarantee that you will have no trouble fanning your flame as a basketball superfan. Below I have compiled a list of the most entertaining and respectable bball magazines on the market.

SLAM MAGAZINE

Slam offers an assortment of interesting articles covering: NBA players’ backgrounds, NBA players present, NBA players future, college stars, unknown/talented ballers, streetball legends, NBA legends (including individuals and teams), high school studs, international leagues, the NBDL, the WNBA, eye-catching photos, wall-worthy posters (tear them out of the mag.), the latest and greatest in basketball apparel, the newest and most slick bball shoes, and NBA player diaries. This is a personal favorite of mine, and I would highly recommend it to any and all fans of the NBA or the game in general.

DIME MAGAZINE

Dime Magazine is the new kid on the block in the basketball magazine industry. In addition to its common basketball articles, Dime focuses on the lives of players off the court (NBA, college, high school, and streetball). It employs various authors who give readers insight into different players and teams. Another perspective on the NBA and basketball in general can never hurt. I would absolutely encourage all bball fans to order this hip new publication.

HOOP MAGAZINE

Hoop Magazine is the official magazine of the National Basketball Association. More for the serious fan, Hoop strives to put forth stirring articles, supply in depth coverage of the NBA, and explain the secondary effects of the NBA on the fans. For example, Hoop emphasizes the health, entertainment, fashion, and style aspects of the NBA. It also scatters high definition photos throughout the magazine to brighten the reading experience. I would suggest that there is enough variety in this magazine that everyone can find something they will thoroughly enjoy.

ESPN THE MAGAZINE

There isn’t much to say about ESPN except that they are the worldwide leader in sports for a reason. They pride themselves in delivering fans of all sports with inside information and the latest news on their favorite teams and players. However, if you are strictly a hoops fan, ESPN The Magazine has a somewhat limited NBA section. They do write about NCAA Basketball as well, but due to their coverage of all the main sports, they usually lack in depth basketball articles. I would advocate subscribing to this magazine if you love basketball and need just a little bit more reading material. Also, if you are a fan of multiple professional and college sports, this magazine is just what you need.

SPORTS ILLUSTRATED

Most of the attributes listed for ESPN The Magazine can also be applied to S.I.. They are the two most well-known sports magazines on the market, and they really only compete with each other. Once again, anyone who is looking for exposure to several different sports or wants just one more NBA article to read, I would advise him/her to sign up for Sports Illustrated.

PUNKS MAGAZINE

Punks is a magazine entirely devoted to the best and most promising prep basketball players on the planet. It lists, ranks, and analyzes all of the most dominant high school basketball players in an easy to read and fun format. This is priceless information that is incredibly difficult to find anywhere else. Punks reports on the most important high school bball events such as: Nike All-American Camp, Adidas Superstar, and ABCD Camp. Another useful function of Punks Magazine is that it often declares where different high school standouts are going to college; if a player is undecided, they will let you know which schools he is considering. I would definitely urge all fans to step out and try reading this new and exciting magazine. Believe me, your friends will be very impressed if you read this mag. because you will be able to spout off the names and intricacies of the top high school athletes.

KICKS MAGAZINE

Are you a footwear fanatic? Do you watch games in order to see the latest and greatest basketball shoes rather than for the competition or awesome individual players? Are you a basketball player that wants to not only play your best but also look sharper than a ninja star? If you answered yes to any of these questions, Kicks Magazine is a must have. Don’t waste a second! Subscribe now! It showcases all of the hottest sneakers (athletic shoes – mainly basketball shoes) from the top companies. Kicks also shows which shoes different NBA stars like to wear. There are pictures galore, so if you are a shoe-loving hoops fan, your money will be well-spent on Kicks Magazine.
