ATLANTA HAWKS 2007-2008 SEASON ANALYSIS

The Atlanta Hawks finally have pulled it all together. They worked their way to a winning year and are in the 2008 Eastern Conference Playoffs.
Behind the consistent all-around play of All Star Joe Johnson and Al Horford’s seamless transition from go-to-guy at the University of Florida to becoming a double-double machine machine in the NBA, the Hawks gained the confidence necessary to win the League. Josh Smith has put together such an incredible stat –stuffing year that even Andre Kirlenko (in his prime) would be jealous. Yet the move that really morphed this team from a young gifted group of athletes into a team with the tools to win in the National Basketball Association was the steal of a trade their GM pulled on February 16, 2008. They snagged top-flight point guard Mike Bibby for veteran scrub Anthony Johnson, a couple of undeveloped youngsters, and a 2008 second round draft pick. They now have several very capable athletes at every position.
ATLANTA HAWKS -- TOP 3 PLAYERS
1. Joe Johson — 21.7 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 5.8 apg, 1 spg, 83.4% (FT%), 38.1% (3p%), 40.8 mpg
Joe Johnson is the Hawks’ best player; he is the only player on Atlanta to make the NBA All Star team the last couple of years. His game is very complete, as he is capable of going for 40 points or dishing out 10 assists on any given night.

2. Josh Smith – 17.2 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 3.4 apg, 1.5 spg, 2.8 bpg, 45.7% (FG%), 35.5 mpg
God must have been having a great day when he decided to create Josh Smith. He apparently forgot that it isn’t fair to give all of the height and athleticism in the world to only one guy! The dude jumps like he had springs installed in his legs, and truly is one of the most jaw-dropping athletes in the League. Due to his natural ability, J. Smith gets out on the fastbreak with regularity and finishes with gliding slams. He is also a superb help-side defender who swats shots like nobody’s business.

3. Mike Bibby – 14.1 ppg, 6.5 apg, 3.1 rpg, 36.9% (3p%), 1.1 spg, 79.7% (FT%), 33.3 mpg
This late-February addition to the team has proven to be invaluable. Bibby has a veteran savvy about him that comes from the many pressure-packed NBA Playoff games he has played while working with the Sacramento Kings and C-Webb (when he could still jump). Also his three-point shooting and ability to dish the rock opens the floor up for his super athletic teammates.
